the skirt

after finally finishing our t-shirts and we had photographed them, we were then told to tear them apart. at first i was a little disappointed but after seeing my nearly completed skirt, im rather happy. at first we made some samples and then we went all the way and have made a skirt. im quite happy with the result. :)

cubism

we have looked into cubism and how it could possibly influence us in our work. there is a possibility of me using this but i am not entirely sure. if i do i may use segments of a picture of a house and construct it back together in a different way.

architecture and designers

we have researched into designers; yohji yamamoto, hussein chalayan, rei kawakubo, philip treacy, alexander mcqueen, ma ke wuyong, issey miyake, comme des garcons, gareth pugh and arkadius. we had to find a picture of the their work and then see which piece of architecture we could see within the garment/ outfit. i then researched further into rei kawakubo and yohji yamamoto.

architecture as inspiration

after being asked to research architecture from my chosen era, i decided to use images i had already collected from over the years of national trust properties from around the country.i found that most buildings look as if they could quite easily be placed into a jane austen period drama. for my mini sketchbook, i will look into these buildings more closely and do some in- depth drawings as well as quick sketches.

skirt and t-shirt designs

before constructing my t-shirt, i drew some designs using a simple colour scheme and an item that links all three - lace.
i then drew some designs for my skirt also using simple shapes and pastel colours

dyeing techniques

a technique we have practised is dyeing. we tried three different types of dyeing; batik, natural dyeing and tie dying to see which is the most effective for our individual projects. in my opinion the best for my project is batik as it creates quite a simple visual and i can use any pattern and most colours.

My t-shirts

For my range of 3 t-shirts i dyed all the t-shirts different pastel colours and the constructed a flower for each. i then added lace type material to all three to make sure they looked like a range of t-shirts. i then tried to take some professional photos of the t-shirts on my sister but i am not sure how professional they looked.

A2 Samples

Using the information i have collected in my sketchbook and the influence i have so far i have made 5 A2 samples.
the most effective in my opinion is the white sample with the 3D flowers and the white hand embroidered flowers. i think i will use these flowers in the making of my t-shirts and skirts.

sketchbook sample pages

these are my samples presented in my sketchbook.
the first three are my weaves. i have already shown pictures of these but this is a picture of them in my sketchbook.
the fourth is an embroidery sample reading "sense", the second is a couching sample in the shape of "&" and i have then wrote sensibility as this is one of jane austen's novels.
the fifth is a collection of three samples. one is embroidery reading "park", the second is hand stitching samples and the third is embroidery with wool reading "abbey"
the sixth is two saples reading "pride" and "+" for pride and prejudice, another of jane austen's novels.
the seventh and final is a needle felting sample reading the word "emma"

weaving samples.

these are images from my samples of weaving.i used wool for the lume on all and then used either strips of fabric or wool for the weaving. i really injoyed this technique and think i may use it for my corset or and accessory to go with it.

Wednesday, 14 October 2009

for this project, we were asked to research into an era to maybe use as inspiration for a corset. after becoming quite inetrested in english literature and jane austen i decided to research into the regency era and 19th century. i hope that, not only literature but architecture, lifestyle, important fugures and more from this era will influence me in my design for my corset.
